I have spent a lifetime being a selfish brute,
Rarely was a word spoken--to anyone--that was kind;
I did not value love and devotion,
It was the farthest thing from my mind.
Once upon a time, I was a father and husband,
But somehow, I think I did not take the job seriously;
I raised my kids with intolerance,
And always treated my wife suspiciously.
God, in his wisdom, has granted me another chance,
My lovely girlfriend sleeps in the room next to me;
And I smile as I listen to the murmurs and the grunts,
As I thank the Lord constantly for the gift of our newborn baby.
