Crash & Burn

Crashing through the atmosphere
A burning star falling to earth
I began my descent as soon as I
reached the apex of my flight
Now this rollercoaster's done
And I'm heading head first
From a long drop
Sixteen stories and falling faster
Images of life flashing in my eyes
The ground looms up leering at me
Burning when I spread my wings
to catch the updrafts
Descending rapidly unable to slow
The ground appears visibly closer
A black maw opens swallowing a star
I crash into the crust...
