Letters in the Sand

by cuppycake   Nov 24, 2005

I remember
When we were young
Sitting on the beach
Watching the sinking sun,

We'd sit on that beach
Every summer day
Without a care in the world
And let the sun cook us with each ray,

Carving letters to each other
In the soft sand
Waiting until high tide
For the water to wash the land,

In our matching swim suits
We'd sit under umbrellas
Telling each other secrets while giggling
And sipping down sodas,

We always swore
We'd be together till the end
Even through hard times
We would still remain friends,

Every summer we went back
To our home, our beach
And always knowing
Our dreams were with in reach,

Time went by
And college came
We finally had to part
together in our hearts just wasn't the same,

We used to call each other
Every single day
But I guess we just got busy
Little by little we let our friendship decay,

Little by little
We became so distant
Though on each others hearts
We left such a strong imprint,

We grew so far apart
That just the other day
i heard that you had your funeral
you must be in a better place to stay,

I went back to our beach
The one that was like a home
But with out you there
It felt so cold,so alone,

But I know you are my angel
To watch me from above
You are always with me
And you I will always love,

So I'll keep our memories close
And let the tears fall away
I wrote you one last note in the sand
I'm sorry I wasn't there for you along life's way.

First of all i just have to say that i can't believe that from all the visits to read this poem that there haven't been more ratings or even one comment before mine. That poem.. brought tears to my eyes and a sadness to my heart. Truely, that has to be one of the best poems i have ever read. You're an amamazing poet. I've only read two, but i will definately read all of them. I can't wait to see some more. Keep up the great work!
