Grampa

You've always been in my life,
My first memories are of you,
You'ld bounce me gently on your knee,
And helped me tie my shoe,
You were generous with your pocket change,
For the corner store,
You thought it was only candy,
But to me it was so much more,
I'd kiss you on your whiskered cheek,
And thank you with a smile,
For giving me that time that day,
And kindness for awhile,
I grew up knowing grandpa,
Was a great man of respect,
Your history and your lessons,
I will always reflect,
You fought hard for your country,
And with your wife you vowed,
To be there for your family,
Of you I am so proud,
Your heart was getting tired,
Your life on earth was done,
Other gods children missed you,
So a new life you begun,
Grandma came to lead you home,
I know she's missed you so,
She took you gently in her arms,
And said "My love, it's time to go"
"I know you'll miss our children,"
"Our love for them is so deep,"
"You can whisper to them in the wind,"
"And visit them in sleep..."
