Long poem - My life

Today I saw a young girl sat on her own,
I asked her to tell me why she was alone,
She smiled at me sweetly and said she was fine,
Next thing I know her hand is placed in mine,

She whispered in my ear a song she once knew,
For when she feels lonely, frightened and blue,
Her eyes grew dark and filled up with tears,
Her dad used to sing it to get rid of her fears,

Her dad had just left her, her mum was gone too,
I felt a lump in my throat, did not know what to do,
So I held her close and said she would be alright,
She sobbed in her dreams all through the night,

Her life was so bad and her experience was cruel,
If I walked away and left her then I would be a fool,
So many people have just pushed her to one side,
21 years of just wanting to run away and hide,

Got to make her strong and teach her to fight,
Convince her she is loved and show her the light,
Got to stand by her right through to the end,
She has nobody else and I am her only real friend,

I decided to take care of her and give her all I had,
My love and attention to make up for the bad,
I stood in the mirror just so that I could see,
The young girl I met was just a reflection of me!
