Actress

by Fighter (Ariane L.)   Nov 30, 2005

Rehearsing her lines once more, she heads for the stage.
Once the curtains open, she becomes the character.
Carefree, funny, smiling, she plays her role.

Reciting the text she's learned by heart with agility,
She manages to fool those who watch her from afar.
She manages to convince them that what they see is real.

When the play finishes, they all applaud, entertained.
Her character smiles back, trying to believe her lies.
Taking one final bow, she steps off the stage.

Behind the closed curtains, her smile stays plastered;
She continues to live in her character's skin.
Carefree, funny, smiling, she plays her role.
Her silent cries never leave her lips, unspoken.
Actress.

    Beautiful, and such a different topic. Amazing, I loved this one because I think everyone feels like an actress ro an actor from time to time in their every day life, spweing words that we know will get a happy reaction and hiding the troubled thoughts etc behind brightly coloured costumes. 5/5 I loved it very unique

    I thought the topic of this was quiet different and I liked how you showed that idea of hiding behind a mask. I was hoping for a happier ending though I see how the ending ties in with the rest of the poem. The whole piece sounds very sad and depressive, you have created the atmosphere really well. well done :)

    We always think we're the only ones hiding, but we're not. Great write.
