Our Last Dance
Our feet never swept across the floor
I never saw you in true elegance
You never saw lead you in graceful dance
We never came that close
We never became one
Until tonight
One step right
One swoop left
Slowly bringing back memories
As the music plays
The sounds of the bands come back
As the balloons pop the vision of your house and you as a bunny fades in
As I eat I see the cookies you baked
As I watch the movie playing I see a broken ankle
Which love healed
The crowd fades away and it is only me and you
We dance song after song
Each raising my chances
For hours and hours our bodies never part
When I finally open my eyes the floor is of carpet
The music has stopped
The people begin to fade away
Then I look down at us and the magic that made you takes you away
I walk out side chasing what I am not sure
Then I saw you fall then I felt a sever hurt
This dream was truly frantic
I lug myself into the bathroom
How queer
I look in the mirror and I am still dressed in that suit
A blood stained shirt
I look in the morning paper the article there “Young gentleman and lady steal showâ€
I come down to breakfast
There is a letter by my orange juice:
I love you. You know that. We danced for hours on end. You brought me back home you showed me what it really means to have fun. You are the one I want to be with you for the rest of my life.
Then my father interrupted
We found that in your suit pocket
He then turns the newspapers pages to the obituaries
Why was your face there?
I read on:
Beautiful girl killed upon leaving school dance
Funeral service set for Friday
Dad why is she in the paper
Then I call you cell
Your mom answers
Crying she says
She is gone
She is gone
Thank you for trying to save her
I hang up the phone and that hurt comes back
I close my eyes and I see you face
So happy
I see our dancing so grand
I look at you right in you eyes
And I read a letter to you
I love you. You are the love of my life as well. You made me so happy at that dance. You truly know how to have fun. I will always love you forever and always death will be no end punctuation.
I open my eyes and I am in a room with everyone crying
I finish my letter and everyone says amen
Amen indeed
Amen indeed
