Why Ignorance is Hard to Wipe Out

by david kessel   Dec 7, 2005

The reason ignorance is so hard to chase away
Is that it has a friend to help it every day.
And that friend's name, which helps it all the way
Is Arrogance, which quickly turns my feet to clay.

While lack of knowledge is, in theory, a curable disease
With chins all up and chests- puffed up, God, help me please!
For I how can I break the Ignorance's rock,
When facing me, there stands an arrogant pea-cock?

The eyes rolled up, the heavy breathing , lips atwist in scorn
My reason flees, and I end up all hopeless and forlorn
For I attempt to deal with a murky, wicked force,
Which knows neither logic nor remorse.

As long as cockiness, and smugness rule the soul,
A man will never be a kind, enlightened whole;
And till we find the way to kill the haughty pride,
Good sense and logic by its tenets shall abide.
