Honey, You Have Something Called Cancer

by Steffi   Dec 8, 2005

A little girl crosses the playground,
She wonders why everyone stares.
Closing her eyes, she reaches up
And remembers she doesnt have hair.

She knows shes no different then anyone else
Mommy tells her that shes just sick.
That soon shes going to get better
And she'll celebrate when she turns six.

The doctor told her she'll be fine,
But that she cant give up the fight.
That up in her brain,
something should not be there.
That they had caught it in time.

She spends the next weeks in her hospital room,
Staring at tubes in her arms.
She notices mommy sitting there crying
Reaching out she tells her 'Mommy, I love you'
She knows she'll be leaving soon.

She asks her mom, why did it happen to me?
Mommy, why do I feel so weak?
Her mommy just holds onto her hand,
Trying to find the words to help her daughter understand.

Honey, you have something called cancer.
And we're doing about all we can try.
But baby, it's just getting stronger.
She turns her head and whispers
Baby, you're going to die.

So the little girl fights a little longer,
There in her hospital bed,
But the strange mass just keeps getting stronger.
Soon, the moment that mommy had dread.

A little girl crosses the playground,
but suddenly no body stares.
She looks around her and realizes,
None of the other children have hair.
