I Had To

You told me what to do
as if you owned me too.
I had to stay by you,
every minute through and through.

Occasionally you'd hit me.,
it took me awhile to see,
that if you truly loved me
you wouldn't let this be.

I couldn't take it any more
so I headed for the door.
You begged for me to stay,
but I left you anyway.

Now I'm happy as can be,
with someone who truly loves me.
They give me joy and take away pain.
Now isn't that a shame
you couldn't do the same?
