Blood Is Thicker Than Water

by RainbowSlider   Dec 8, 2005

I heard what you said
about being independent.
I know you lost two loves
and they were both my fathers.
I know you divorced dad
before I was three
and that you remarried.
Like a yo-yo
I would go to you
and then to dad
but in the end
there is only you.
But I have pictures
in black and white
when you two were together.
And sis and me
were so young
when you two
held us between you.
You told me
not to be
with married women
and I know
that both my fathers
are dead.
You were with me
when my two loves died
and you told me
it was alright
to have a girlfriend
but just don't bring
her here.
I questioned that
but this is your house
and I am just a renter.
I know you are my blood
and you have seen my tears.
I know you understand
the lonliness I go through.
I was first baptized
when I was ten
and I was told to pray
Not my will but thine be done.
When you prayed
you said hide me behind the cross
and cover me with the blood.
And yet you say
that you are single
but you'll not fooling me
because I know who my father is
and I know whose bride you are.
When I sing
with you beside me
and his spirit
comes over me
I see you smile
and raise you hands too.
In my tears
I feel his presence
and I know
he died for me.
It is then
that I will always know
that blood is thicker
than water.
