Old Kentucky Song

by Katelyn   Dec 11, 2005

My life had changed somehow
I know it might be strange
Like the book keeper who stole the book
and the black man get blamed

My parents tore the bread in two
served it all around
They shared the news of their divorce
and it spread it's way through town

How should I feel at my age
eating this here bread
With simple words tainting it
the ones you both said

I ran away from that table
Didn't think that anyone would care
To the woods behind the white fence
where I found a rusty chair

It was left behind from a move
A man that came and gone
Every night round that fireside
he and his banjo would play a song

About triumphs and glories
that he had never found
About angels and heaven
the place where he was bound

I remember the good times
When I would sing along
to the good Ole friendly
South Kentucky song

I cried myself to sleep that night
not thinking about tomorrow
Woke up when the sun went down
to find my momma in sorrow

She screamed that she wasn't happy
that she wanted to die
I locked her out of my mind
and sat down and cried

Never heard from my father again
Wonder where he has been round
probably with his buddies
drinking glass to the pound

I let my mind wander
to that one memory
that one will never fade away
of his very own jamboree

He would sing about triumphs and glories
that he ain't never found
About angels and heaven
the place where he was bound

I remember the good times
When I would sing along
to that good Ole homely
South Kentucky song

Now it is been long time past
when I had last cried
for my dear old mom and dad
who unfortunately had died

I look at my own children
they know I'll never be gone
I made a promise to them and myself
whenever I sing them that ole Kentucky song

About triumphs and glories
things that I had found
About angels and heaven
where we are all bound

I remember the good Ole times
with my cherished friends
But I will never forget the smile on my face
Whenever I would hear that
Ole South Kentucky Song

It was very lyrical, I liked it a lot. You could write music tothat and record it lol, the structure is already there!
