I took a deep breath...(About the Holocaust)

by Jacob M Parnell   Dec 12, 2005

I took a deep breath.
I slowly entered the room.
You could smell the death.
It was such a protruding fume.
----------------------------------------
Children, Women and Men.
The bodies were mass.
We had to separate in piles of ten.
Everywhere you looked there was broken glass.
----------------------------------------
They had been starved.
They had been beaten.
Some bodies had been carved.
Others fed to dogs and eaten.
----------------------------------------
This was what Hitler had left.
For the rest of the world to clean up.
An untimely theft.
That was now being seen closeup.
----------------------------------------
This was the first camp.
But others where sure to come.
They where prisoners without the stamp.
Even the alive where numb.
----------------------------------------
We found torture cells.
Rooms engulfed with ash.
I cant explain the smells.
This was Adolf's trash.
----------------------------------------
There where many rooms.
That contained the residue of gas.
They where executed with the fumes.
But this room was for execution in mass.
----------------------------------------
When we arrived.
Outside they had been digging their own graves.
Very few had survived.
They where all Germany's slaves.
----------------------------------------
One body.
After another.
Some even where embodied.
Like tombs for each other.
----------------------------------------
This devastation.
Brought to you impart by cruel intentions.
This was Hitler's dream nation.
Rendered by his tensions.
----------------------------------------
It took us weeks to bury them.
It took us months to heal the ones who had lived.
But this was only a hem.
Nothing could fix what Hitler did.
----------------------------------------
I was told to take a deep breath.
When I was to enter this room.
But nothing could have prepared for all the death.
I will never forget, when I first saw the doom.

Well I put some real time into this so if ya ll could vote/comment It would be greatly appreciated.

WOw. I went to a holocaust museum for a school trip and I remember I froze there and then crying my eyes out and the teachers came back to look for me b/c the museum was closing and I was still there crying my eyes out. I was out of it for the rest of the trip and I have never been the same. You poem is good and real and I really appriecated it. Great job.
