Ghost of the Theatre

Standing on the stage
staring at the lights
how they blind me so
the audience is out of sight

except for my lonely footsteps
not a sound can be heard
the tension is unbelievable
as they wait for my first words

i stand in the middle of the stage
pause and take a breath
clear my throat and get ready
tonight will be my best

i slowly start to talk
my crazy and eerie voice
my killer character
has to make her choice

the performance goes on and on
I'm growing steadily tired
i hear a clap in the audience
and suddenly feel inspired

i continue on until the end
continue to raise my voice
acting crazy and scary
the crowd starts to rejoice

in the pitch of darkness
i hear their applause roar
i have simply awed them
and left them wanting more

as i leave the stage
the roar continues on
the curtains slowly close
and soon i am gone

tonight was pretty good
yet just another night
i will be there tomorrow
to give them another fright

the ghost of the theater
as they call me
haunting this old building
hoping they hear my pleas

i was once the actress
that was the best
that was given the roses
a cut above the rest

until that forsaken night
driving on the street
to my final performance
thats been left incomplete
