The Kokoda Battle: An Australian Soldier

by Amy   Dec 14, 2005

Hey mum I'm sorry
they've sent me off to war
i must defend my country
and help my friends in the corps

you know that place i told you
well I'm in Port Moresby
where all those natives live
in Paupa New Guinea

please tell my wife to stay safe
to protect my new baby son
tell them I'm sorry i was gone
when his life begun

i was shipped off without notice
we haven't any training
this jungle is so damn hot
and its always raining

the japs are close
they've more training than us
they've more chance of winning
but please don't make a fuss

i may not make it home
just remember i love you
i love my dad and wife
and defiantly my son too

just sleep easy at night
tell my wife my next letters for her
tell her not to worry
if the worse does occur

ill try to make it back home
all of my mates too
rest your weary bones tonight
remember that i love you

I am an Australian Soldier
That fought in 1942
We got to defend our country
Cause us Aussies soldiers do what we gotta do

*I'm not meaning to be racist in this poem its just how these men felt while serving their time and even loosing their life at the Battle of Kokoda in 1942 (WW2). Please dint take any offense because none is meant!

Brings back a lot of memorys from History, thats for sure. You have some good points in this ballad and I like it too. Again some more puntuation would be handy :P and take notice of your meter in these kinds of poems. The rhymings good but I think you will be able to improve still on that in further poems. Good work!
