Living in Imagination

by DL Kendall   Dec 15, 2005

*I was only 15 when I wrote this.. so be nice!

Living in imagination,
close your eyes and join me.
Open up your mind and dream,
tell me what you see.

Before my eyes I witness,
a court in all it's splendor.
A case of love,
a case of greed,
a case of legal tender.

The judge will rise,
the jury will be seated.
The judge calls out "Court adjourned!"
Isn't that the way it happens?
Or is it what we've learned.

A jester in his bells and hat
comes rolling down the isle.
He laughs and looks at me and says, "Please join us for awhile."
So I find my place among the rows
of beautiful cloud like seats.

I blink my eyes,
to my surprise,
the court has disappeared.

Sitting on a river boat,
going up the river Nile.
Passing tangerine trees,
two or three every mile.

From the river rises up a huge,
but friendly whale.
Right before my very eyes
he turns into a slimy snail.

The snail smiles up to me, "Come see inside my shell."
And since it's just imagination I say, "Sure, what the hell."

Inside we had a cup of tea
in Hollie Hobbie glasses.
The snail drank tea slower than a cup of cold molasses.

I looked around the snail's shell,
there had to be a door.
I looked back at the snail who was lying on the floor.

His tea spilled like an ocean,
I'm the captain of the sea!
Aboard a sailing pirate ship
is where I want to be.

Like Captain Hook
or Black Beard.
I'll be mighty,
I'll be feared.

But instead I open up my eyes,
I'm in a meadow with a stream.
I know by all it's beauty,
that it's just another dream.

This is based on a dream I had. (Maybe after reading too much Alice in wonderland?)
To me it symbolizes the realization and change as one grows from a child to an adult, forsaking fantasy for reality.

I always kind of liked this one because it is so very different from everything else I write.
