Burning Bright

by Matt   Dec 16, 2005

Let me know, have you ever been down like this?
Been kicked around and battered from here to there
Staring down the barrel of a .45
There's nothing to do about it, it follows where you go
Open your arms, lift your chest to the sky
Tell her to rip it from your chest
So whatever happens to your swallowed pride
Goes away with her, you'll never feel it again
There's no real reason to accept the way things change
Only to let your eyes open for once
Every time the light shines through us
We pretend to close our eyes, don't let it in
And when the darkness tries to consume us
We pretend to be burning bright through it all
The flaming cross we're nailed to slides forward
Breaks across the hand that holds us down
How does it feel to be the only one that holds you down?
