The Dark Side of Christmas

by Laci   Dec 17, 2005

Christmas is a joyous time as we all know,
The spirit is infectious, our hearts begin to glow.
Unfortunately, there is more to see,
Christmas isn't always what it's meant to be.

Some wealthy families are generous, only to their kin,
For them, giving is a competition to win.
Who spends the most? Who gives more?
All the while, suffering are the poor.

When the stress of the holidays, becomes too great,
Some people become bitter, they begin to hate.
Rushing through each mall and store,
Checking your money, realizing you need more.
Feeling a sense of guilt and regret,
When you remember a gift for someone you forget.
Planning parties, having guests,
Just when your patience is put to the test.

Yet there are some who have no kin,
What do you do at Christmas time then?
They are alone, no gifts to receive,
They are alone, they are left to grieve.

All of this, on the birthday of the one who died for you,
This is not what Jesus would do.

*Note: This is just a quick work of mine. Christmas is awesome, but it has it's bad sides too, nobody ever writes about that, so I thought I would. I'm not trying to preach or push morals, mind you. It's just another poem, please give me feedback.

Sincerely,
Laci LeBlanc

Yes, this part is indeed sad... but then again that happnes all the time, not just on Christmas - there are always people less fortunate than others. Oh well... it was a good poem anyway - quite original I might say =)
