Homecoming Queen

by Poetvoices   Dec 18, 2005

THE FOLLOWING POEM WAS WRITTEN BY ME AND MY BEST FRIEND. Her login name is She. She has awesome poems. Please check them out if you (or if you don't) like mine! She's definitely a 20 x's better poet than I. :D

She thought about her high school years.
The memories, they brought on so many tears.
She used to have a smile that never seemed to fade,
but deep down inside, she was always afraid.

She used to be happy, but it wasn't real.
She showed off to others not letting them know how bad she did feel.
She had so many secrets she kept locked inside.
So many sorrows she tried desperately to hide.

She led them on. They believed it was true
when they decided that she set the pattern. Couldn't they see through?
She wished that someday someone would really care.
Why did HER life have to be so unfair?

Now, in the present, she sorted through her life to find
that all she'd worked for in high school was empty. There were no rewards left of any kind.
Homecoming and prom queen, most likely to prevail.
All goals she'd fulfilled, but now her life had become so stale.

Her high school life had always felt so incomplete.
Now she knows why. She never told anyone how she felt such defeat.
She just put on the make-up that hid her pretty face
and fell into step where the world felt was her place.

Now, soon enough, she'd show the whole school.
What would they think or say? Had she really been such a fool?
She had done nothing good with her life.
At least nothing worth all of high school's pain and strife.

How she wishes she could go back and apologize to certain ones,
but it's much too late. It's over. High school's done.
Oh well. She'd accomplished her most important teenage dream.
To be the one and only homecoming queen.
