Border of Change

by christine   Dec 19, 2005

Staring out the window
On the border of light and darkness,
Having that sense of wanting

To go out into the darkness,
But at the same time
Not wanting to leave the light.

The darkness beckons
With its gentle, cool breeze
The lovely sounds of the night:

Blowing leaves and complete silence.
But the light holds a warmth and security
The darkness does not have;

The sounds of familiar voices,
The slow rhythm of a song on the radio,
The dreary news on the television.

But something about the darkness pulls you
From that warmth and familiarity;
It pulls you toward independence and freedom.

It is dark, mysterious, uncharted territory
You are lost and alone,
But gradually your vision clears

It begins to brighten
The light returns,
Only it is not the old light.

It is a brand new light, only made of your
Personality, your strengths, and your newly
Found freedom and independence.

Sometimes we must go into the darkness
To find our true light and the awareness
Of how exceedingly unique we are.
