That last look

by nikki   Dec 27, 2003

The way you looked me in the eye
As I left and said goodbye
I will never forget that look
And how it made me feel inside
You knew were I was gong
You knew my chance was slim
You knew I probably wouldn’t come back
Because I probably wouldn’t win
But you still held faith and told me
Straight up all alone
Goodbye my sweetest sweet heart
See you when you come home
Your eyes held faith completely
With utter truth you said
Though deep deep down you knew it
I would only come back dead
I smiled as your hand let go
I closed the door on my way out
I gave one last look behind me
At what I was without
I shook my head and just started walking
My suitcase in my hand
Not one look back, not one sigh
I could barely stand
My eyes again would water
And as I wiped them back again
It was the last time that I’d see you
It caused me nothing but pain
I knew I had to carry on
For I knew I had to fight
With the look you gave me last
I knew it would be alright

It's very annoying how you have commented on all of my poems in the same way you know!
