The Box (Part 2- The Moral)

by Rachael Young   Dec 24, 2005

I awake in my bed
Early Christmas morning
Realizing the day and time
I rush without a warning

Straight back down the stairs
To see my family there
Opening this present
I already prepared

Save the best until last
The package great and tall
I will tell the story to my children
And on this moment i will recall

Books clothing and games
Jewelery and designer
This years presents
Could not be finer

My parents egg me on
So i look by the curtain
Seeing it alone there
This was the best and i was certain

I ripped off all the wrapping paper
And opened up the box
Slowly and carefully
Destroying the polystyrene blocks

I thought it was big
But inside nothing but a note
From my Nan and granddad
I read allowed what they wrote

All good things come in small packages
The larger is not the best
This is not your present
This is nothing but a test

Its the thought that counts
Do not be fooled by size
Nobody realizes this
Except the old and wise

So i am passing this to you
Look deep inside you skin
Do not be mad at all my dear
Share the love thats deep within

For this is a time for happiness
And not hate and despise
See the love and joy
Through everybody's eyes

Merry Christmas grandson
And a happy new year
Have fun on this happy day
Join the laughter and cheer
