Merry Christmas

by Angie   Dec 24, 2005

As the snow falls,
Lightly from the sky.
Each snowflakes different,
Bringing Christmas joy.

Kids laughing and playing everywhere,
Making snowmen and snow angels.
Tobogganing down snow covered hills,
There screams of excitement fill the frosty air.

As the sun starts to set,
Bringing a new set of chills.
Lights of all colors shine,
Giving life to the still night.

Children return to their homes,
With rosy cheeks and icy noses.
Parents welcoming their arrival,
With marshmallows and hot chocolate.

As night approaches,
Families get together,
In the hearth of the living room,
Singing Christmas carols.

Tired yawns and heavy eyes,
Tells the parents its time for good nights.
Kids brush their teeth and slip into bed,
Sleep comes easily as sleigh bells ring in their heads.

Midnight bells chime ,
As the reindeer take flight.
Carrying special packages,
For kids who are nice.

Santa laughs like a bowl full of jelly,
Placing gifts under the ornament filled trees,
While drinking milk,
And eating chocolate chip cookies.

As morning comes,
Light shines through the frost covered windows.
Children begin to stir,
Awakening to a new day.

Realization dawns upon them, and they smile,
A beautiful smile that reaches their eyes.
For today is unlike any other; its magical,
And anything can happen.

Hearts soar and laughter elapses,
People all over the world,
Get together with their families,
Opening presents around the Christmas tree.

It only comes once a year,
So make it worth your while,
Believe in the spirit of Christmas,
And remember, "Its better to give then receive."

I really love the details in this poem as they paint such a vivid picture of what Christmas used to mean. I did think this line kind of threw it off:

Giving life to the still night.

I don't know why but it just didn't seem to fit in that stanza. Otherwise, I really do think you captured such a wonderful Christmas spirit.
