I'm Not

by Carmen   Dec 28, 2005

I'm not beautiful,
As much as I wish I were,
I smother my face in fakehood,
Wearing namebrand and expensive fur.

I may not be popular,
Just another nobody in a world of beauty,
Plain to the glistening eye,
Unknown in this endless sea.

I'm not smart,
My intelligence is measured by marks,
But when it comes to the real world,
I'm a fish surrounded by sharks.

I'm not outgoing,
My mind etched with fear,
Never daring to talk to you,
To lonely to wipe away this tear.

I'm not perfect,
Like those women made of wax,
And despite this place full of fakes,
The real person, me, is the one who lacks.

There's a lot of things I'm not,
But there's one thing I am that I know;
I am in love with you, and if I had you,
I'd never let you go.

Wow, I didn't see that ending coming, but I really liked it. There was a good flow with good meaning - and it showed a low self-esteem which is unfortunately very present, but that just means that alot of us will find it easy to connect with this poem. You have no complaints from me 5/5 :)
