Favorite birthday present

Remembering 2 years ago,
just like some story told,
a day that pretty much meant nothing,
except how she's one more year old.

that was the 14th birthday,
and that night,
her favorite gift wasn't bought with money,
but she realized what she wants from life.

now today she turns 16,
she still chases after what is missing in her heart,
even though now he's closer,
yet they are still so far apart.

this day still means nothing,
age wasn't any matter,
but she remembers this day as the day she fell for him,
and continues to hope even though the ending may be latter.

first the day meant nothing,
and maybe someday it will be a day to resent,
but he will always be in her heart and mind,
her favorite birthday present.
