Innocence Lost

by Chrissy   Dec 29, 2005

Haunted by relentless memories
Echoes of stories left untold
Was she ever meant to understand
A mere child, barely 8 years old

Vicious games he chose to play
Slowly destroyed her fragile soul
Precious parts of her forever gone
With the subtle innocence he stole

Desperately she cried in silence
Knowing she dare not shed a tear
But how could she give in to his request
And allow pleasure to overcome fear

Too frightened and shallow to disobey
Afraid to lose who she considered a friend
She lost herself within her unconscious mind
Praying for the shameful moments to end

He repeated the words, "it'll be our secret"
As he gradually exposed her to the skin
She knew it would never be worth the fight
She knew it was impossible for her to win

Her lifeless figure bitterly cringed within
As he explored her body with his hand
Wearing a ludicrous smile on his face
Announcing it was time he became a man

Inside she felt nothing but anguish and distress
From the constant guilt, loneliness, and shame
For the many times she allowed him to explore
And convinced herself it was a harmless game

For years to come she endured the secret pain
Of a childhood lost, replaced by remorse and regret
Many nights she hid away and wept in solitude
Over the tainted memories she could never forget

But to her dismay, even after the game did end
Her innocence and purity remained long gone
And although it was only a few years that passed by
She will forever remain distant and withdrawn
