I am selfish

by Sarah Ramsey   Dec 30, 2005

If I were thirsty I would want to drink you,
All of you,
And I would not leave even a hint of your flower behind.
I am selfish.

If I were hungry I would devour you,
Eating every succulent part,
Making sure to save the best ones for last.
I would lick the plate clean so not even the dogs would know how you taste.
I am selfish.

If I were tired you would be my resting place.
I would lie naked on you,
Wrap myself in your blanket tightly--
So tightly that it’s hard to breath.
I would pity any tired soul who should come ask for rest,
Because I would not share.
I am selfish.

If I needed clothing I would wear you,
Showing off to all those around me how splendid I look,
And if someone were to ask where I found you,
I would simply smile and walk away, because
I am selfish.
