Dragon Slayer

by Michael D Nalley   Jan 1, 2006

If dragons are a myth, could I be the slayer?
With the magic of a mythical soothsayer
Could I rescue my beloved from a high balcony?
With a mystical potion derived from alchemy?

Never was I in paradise I have no lies to tell
Though I have tasted fire I have not been to hell
Eternity is infinite and far beyond my scope
Love has no boundary yet it is my only hope

The serpent lives in darkness I have seen the light
Darkness is the shadow cast by the earth at night
Darkness is the silence rarely seen in the day
Yet it is the home of a serpent never far away

The fire breathing dragon is as dead as the dinosaur
Burning like the fire that will forever exist in the core
Dragons that we can slay dwell within our thought
The only hell that can exist is a place where Love is not

With a first glance at the title I thought it's going to be a fantasy write, but I was really amazed that it is something about life and love.

I like how you started off the first stanza. It is one that draws you in to the poem. And the questions kind of make the meaning you expressed here understood. The rhyming is great too, with a abab cdcd pattern. It doesn't sound force and it helps with the flow!

To me this poem is flawless and I enjoy it very much and also the meaning behind it. Thanks for sharing this wonderful piece. =)
