Alone Again on New Year's

by Peter Williams   Jan 2, 2006

The stars sing and glow,
In the night where "Auld Lang Syne" is sung.
There is something you must know and I've only just begun.
This fog...
This fog is everywhere.
I don't...
I do not really care.
Alone again on New Year's,
The year went by almost that fast.
Please do not shed any more tears,
For all the things that just passed.
Goodnight to that little boy,
For that little boy was me.
Say goodnight to all that joy,
Because we are never free.
Here's to the things I've said,
Here's to the things I've done,
Cheers to the blood that was bled,
Cheers to the fights that were never won.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind?
Should old memories torture us until the last of our kind?
For the days of long ago,
Were the ones we forgotten so.
Drinking,
Always drinking...
Thinking,
Always thinking...
The alcohol starts to numb the pain,
There is so much that I can still gain.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot and auld lang syne?
Did I lose the moment?
The moment you were mine.
I think I know what you will say,
Because tomorrow comes today,
And today the New Year starts.
There will be no broken hearts.
I am alone again...
Alone again on New Year's,
But I won't be for long...
In the night where "Auld Lang Syne" is our song.
