You're My Inspiration

by Hilary   Jan 2, 2006

I used to look for inspiration
In the silliest of things;
Stories of my fellow friends
Songs a stranger would sing -
I thought I knew what life was
And what it was all about...
And when you contradicted me,
Oh, how I'd scream and shout!
But the years started passing by
As I continued to grow...
And you began to realize
I wasn't that little girl from long ago.
I could sense the fear in you
With the mistakes made along the way...
And I could tell, you blamed yourself,
For words you did not say.
That's when I started realizing
That you, too, were still growing -
And we started learning from each other
Without even knowing.
I saw the way, you tried so hard,
To find a good thing to see...
And inside, I held on tight,
Keeping that outlook with me.
I know each morning when I awake
The day I face may be hard...
But I have a strength inside of me
That I keep deep within my heart -
The strength that comes from your love
And all you've ever given...
Recognizing that you gave your all
And were always very driven.
So when difficult times come now
I have the faith to make it through...
For a true and meaningful inspiration
...I found in you.
