What I Knew

by TearsLeftUndried   Jan 3, 2006

I never really thought of this,
About how my life could end
I thought I was invincible,
I thought I was your friend

You asked me to get in the car with you,
I knew I shouldent go.
I knew you had been drinking,
And I knew I should say no.

I reluctantly got in the car with you,
Seatbelt tightly fastened.
Speeding off into the night,
I knew that this would happen.

Screeching tires,
Broken glass,
Sirens ringing,
It was all so fast.

Now I'm here at your grave,
Wheelchair and all.
I know I shoulden't have gone with you
I should have been brave, and stood tall

Maybe if you had your seatbelt,
You would still be alive
This life you had would have been spared,
And you would not have died.

But now I know what to say
When asked to come along
"Have you been drinking, yes?"
This is when I need to be strong

Because I know what happens,
To drunk drivers behind the wheel.
They twist and turn out of sight,
Until they can no longer feel.

Next time I will think twice
About getting into a car
Remembering my friend,
In a graveyard off a far....
