Remaining Child

by Hilary   Jan 4, 2006

Don't you see his broken spirit?
Our angel lost his faith...
Born into a life of love,
That quickly turned to hate.
His biggest hero -
A sister barely touching five,
Found herself facing death,
In a body too weak to fight.
His heart found confusion,
Laying with the idol held so high...
Now trying to understand,
Why God would let her die.
He sat beside her bed each day,
Carried off when he fell asleep...
The strongest boy I've ever known,
A one-hundred year soul, going on three.
We dared not separate them,
Only he could bring her bliss...
As she softly whispered in his ear,
"You're the one I'll always miss."
The sounds awoke those of us waiting,
As we sat surrounding her bed...
The doctors hung their heads in sorrow;
Our little loved one dead.
His tiny essence survived the tears,
But their parents felt enraged...
Turning away from their only child,
Hating God for the fate He gave.
A father now prone to violence,
A mother that lost her might,
Only could cry over their lost one,
Forgetting the one still in their sight.
The youngster still remaining,
Then endured his mothers suicide...
Promptly turning to his father,
Who responded with black and blue eyes.
Daddy's in jail now,
And mommy's in the skies above,
Leaving their only remaining child,
To wonder if he's loved...
