You Let Me Go

by Hilary   Jan 7, 2006

The gorgeous smile that I once loved,
Has arrived to claim my heart...
He walked out on me so long ago,
And tore my world apart.
I left the images of our future,
To die back in the past...
I knew I had to let him go,
Or my soul would never last.
I pushed away his memory,
The way he'd say my name...
How he'd kiss me goodbye each morning,
Or our silly little games.
I left us in the distance,
Just another memory...
And took my steps towards tomorrow,
By setting my tears free.
After all this time, he has returned,
Realizing what he lost...
But he took too long, my dear sweet one,
And any trust was the cost.
He can make all of his promises,
He can say his love is true...
He can look at me with those deep brown eyes,
But there's one thing he can't do.
He can't erase the hurt he caused,
Or make it go away...
He can't make me forget the tears,
Or the words he didn't say.
He weakened me, so long ago,
But in the end it made me strong...
And it also made me realize,
That our love was so wrong.
Oh, baby, don't you understand?
Or do you not even know?
You are the cause of your gloomy future,
Cuz you're the one that let me go.
