Catch Me If You Can

by RainbowSlider   Jan 7, 2006

Remember when I was a baby
and you would throw me in the air?
You would always catch me
but it seemed like you didn't care.

Remember when you went way up
to the Leaning Tower Of Pisa there?
She wouldn't let me go up
because she cared.

Remember when you said
this will hurt me more than you?
My bottom sure was red
and I wished you were dead.

Remember you would always talk to me
but when I would try to speak
you would never listen to me?
It made me feel like a freak.

Remember I always tried to hide from you
but you would call my name and I would come?
I remember living life in fear of you
but your words said I was welcomed.

Remember how you would fight me in life
and you did box with her because I saw.
She was my friend and your wife.
but your arm with razorback of Arkansas.

Remember how you made fun of my faith later
but talked in the dessert of gators?
I remember how you talked of Irish taters
and home grown maters.

Remember how you tried to make me tough
and told me when you were a child in the depression?
Our family was very rough
and we lived through the recession.

Remember Devu Park overlooking the city
and us sitting in that bench?
I remember other times of self-pity
and how you could handle a wrench.

Remember how much I loved you
but you said I would find someone better?
You was wrong, too
and that is why I wrote this letter.

Remember how I found you dead
and how much it hurt?
My eyes are still red
and I remember how you liked to flirt.

Remember how I believed in God
and took you to church?
He believed in not sparing the rod
and those girls used to call me Lurch.

In my mind I see spirits with open arms
and I know I am human.
As I take a flying leap off the mountain leaving this farm
I scream catch me if you can.

I love that line... this poem is really heartfelt but extremely sad at the same time. I hope to read more poems of yours, keep up the great writing.
