Why I ever let you go?

Last night I went up to my room
and turned the radio on
then all of a sudden
our song comes on
I stop what I'm doing
and start to cry
and wonder why I ever let you go
then I sit down on my bed
when something catches my eye
it's a bright pink monkey
that you had won me at the fair
I go and pick it up remembering
that day quite clearly
by now the song is over
but the radio is still playing
a sad love song
I open the box
that I have saved everything in
I take out our winter formal picture
and remember that the dress
is still hanging in my closet
next I take out a note
and silently read it to myself
I find a CD and walk over to my
stereo to put it on
and once again I hear our song
I find a butterfly necklace, earrings, a bracelet and some other things
I find stuffed animals
that I had forgotten about
and then all these memories
come flooding back
I find a photo album
and open it up
inside there are pictures of us smiling together
I open my yearbook
and there is your note in it
complete with picture of us
more tears come to my eyes
why I wonder
why ever did I let you go?
