The Old Man

by Burning Silent   Jan 11, 2006

An old man sits across the street
"Some cheese?" he asks. "A piece of meat?"
No one offers
He sits down to cry
Then suddenly, what do I spy
A girl walks up with a slice of ham
The beggar says, "Oh, thank you, ma'am!"
Alas, does he eat it? My, not he!
He lays it underneath a tree
I'm sure that you'll now ask me why
So I'll answer you as I say goodbye
His poor dog Rex, so sickly and tired
A bite to eat is what he desired
That man gave up all that he had
To help some poor dog that was treated bad.
