Red and Black

by Ixora   Jan 12, 2006

“God send me an angel”
Was the last words my mother said
Wiping her tears with my own
I watched her die in my own bed

“I’m sorry,” I whispered
I f u c k e d up again
Now five years later its hard
When I remember back to then

She was a beauty
With hair as red as fire
A man who’s hair was black
Filled her hearts desire

A romance based on lust
Gave birth to a worthless child
One who was forlorn for some reason
Yet witless, innocent and wild

She’d grow up to be a rebel
Hated by many, loved by few
Mistakes she made grew her up
Taught her what she never knew

Knowledge killed her innocence
Innocence took her memory with it
Left alone numb and confused
She lives everyday through the same s h I t

He mother and father were wounded by her
They had wanted something better
She refused to change or open- up
At least that’s what it said in the letter

A suicide note
The last one she’d have read
If he hadn’t come to her
And cleared up her head

She realized she just found a reason to live
She hated him for loving her
Worse she hated loving him back
Hate was always what she’d prefer

And it’s a sad love cycle
That runs in their genes
None before turned out good
So why should it for these teens

When they smile in the hallway
Or shoot a shy glance
Whenever one would come close
The other wouldn’t give them a chance

With souls as black as night
And scars that were bitter red
They both could only survive so long
If the right words weren’t said

Its why I wanted to write this
Cuz they really need to know
If you love someone so dear
You shouldn’t let them go

Years later she would marry
To a violent husbands attack
The day he finally saw her
Almost her whole face was black

She looked tender, a porcelain doll
Broken, used and betrayed
He watched her form afar
Wishing he had stayed

Mind made up he couldn’t wait
He went and grabbed her hand
As soon as she looked in his eyes
She couldn’t understand

A kiss broke any argument
And he held on like he may never let go
“did you ever love me, do you still?” he asked
When she nodded, he realized that’s all he wanted to know

And in the end it worked out
For two souls who truly loved each other back
Hope existed without belief
In a world of red and black
