Shadow

by Mike Johnson   Jan 14, 2006

The shadow follows the man, wherever he goes,
It imitates every move, it is the man's apprentice.
Every turn, every leap,
Could not be made without the effort of the man.
Running down this road, the shadow knows its role,
It stays behind, where it started,
Where it will end.

The shadow learns all the ways of the man,
It knows every move, predicting the ways of the man.
Certain turns, certain leaps,
The shadow makes before his master, the man.
Sprinting down this path, the shadow questions its role,
Should it stay behind, like the start,
Or should it end ahead?

The shadow has mastered the actions of the man,
It makes it own moves, the man is trailing.
On this turn the man falls,
The shadow keeps running, it disregards the man,
It sprints down this path, now defining its own role,
No longer behind, like the start,
The shadow runs ahead alone.
