Why do people do it?

why do people do it?
a question often asked,
but rarely answered,
the answer could tell us so much,
could allow people to help,
yet there is no answer,
for no one really knows,
we all think we know the reason,
all have an idea,
but is it the true answer?

why do people do it?
the question with a thousand answers,
yet the question that always remains,
no matter how many times it is asked,
the answer will never be the same,
you could ask the entire world,
and never get the same response twice,
for no one really knows,
no one can answer for certain,
is there even an answer to give?

why do people do it?
maybe we are asking the wrong thing,
maybe it is not a case of "why",
or maybe its different for all,
the "why" may be relative,
may be pointless trying to understand,
asking a question with no answer,
so people stop trying,
and so cannot understand nor accept,
so what do they do now?

why do people do it?
they ask but don't really want to know,
don't want to understand,
not truly wanting to be told,
ask just because they know nothing else to say,
within their mind is already made up,
thinking they already know the truth,
deciding the reasons for themselves,
and so the judging begins,
why should people try to understand?

why do people do it?
self destruction or attention,
the results within most minds,
the pre-justice of the community,
once this idea has been embedded,
like a seed it will grow and take root,
take other the mind,
allow no reason or logic to enter,
no other reason is required,
why do it for attention?

why do people do it?
I'm afraid is something i cannot answer,
for peoples reasons are not the same,
past, depression, abuse,
addiction, pain, suffering,
many reasons,
many people,
in the end the "why" is not important,
it is the "how" people the should consider
how can people be helped?

why do people do it?
a question with many answers,
how can people be helped,
a question with far less,
a lack of prejudice would be a good start,
and acceptance could also help,
not making people feel alone,
isolated by what they do,
instead of "why do people do it?",
try asking "how can i help people?"
