Cover to cover

Do you share in the constant confusion I find
When I pick up the paper and read those black lines
What I read is not news, they don't tell it straight
They spin and they weave, they enhance, re-create
It may as well be a trash magazine, merely gossip
And they'd say 'It's the truth' and 'Lies bring us no profit'
Black and grey lines of deceit with obvious intention
Subliminal messages affecting elections
Affecting power control, affecting big spending
Affecting big corporations; the paper, the words I am reading
Be it about war, making the government sound legit,
They hide it in seriousness, in opinions, in wit
Be they nudging us slowly to where our priorities 'should' be
Or warning us of the 'reality' of 'dangers' that 'could' be
It's a trap that we all fall into in different degrees
And it's natural for humans to want to believe
Just reading the paper won't make you smart, maybe just blind.
But to read it with questioning, fresh open mind:

To not swallow greedily words
To turn over and discuss
To change your own opinions
To let go old prejudice
To adapt, to really grow
To truly seek the truth
To honestly want to know.
