THE RAGING OF PLACID DISCONTENT

by Gary Jurechka   Jan 19, 2006

In the still calm before the storm,
gray air, not a leaf moving,
existence stands still,
in these dead moments,
I breathe the nothing and ponder
the hopes and dreams and plans
I once believed in and sought
and how over the years
I let them fade and fall away.

Now with a numb resignation,
I realize again that
I never meant to live my life this way.
