You and Me

by Poetvoices   Jan 23, 2006

We're so much alike.
It kills me when I do
things that make me look or feel
more and more like you.

One thing, though,
that kills me most
is an action that
we both often host.

I don't like to cry
when others are around.
I think you do the same thing.
You don't let us hear that sound.

I watched you watch him just today.
I saw your awful pain.
But the pain wasn't evident to anyone else.
They only heard the pittering rain.

I saw it, Daddy.
You can't fool me.
Because we are alike.
We're alike--you and me.

I cry tonight--
not in front of others,
but to myself and to my book and to the rain.
We cry out to each other.
