Claustrophobia

by Simon Hayes   Jan 23, 2006

A container small and empty
With a lock right on the door
Heavy, thick and scary
Chained upon the floor

Dark inside with nothing
But an air tight door to close
Solid metal walls
So creepy and morose

Crawl inside - I'm curious
To see from the inside
The door slams shut behind me
Suddenly the box is not so wide

Hands and arms are wedged
Legs are locked in place
The emptiness now filled
No longer any space

Luckily I'm day dreaming
I instantly jump out
I won't go back inside of there
Of that there is no doubt

Glad it isn't my box
Think I'll stay well clear
One thing that I'm sure of
Today I found my fear!

************************************************
When I was a child I found a small box with a heavy door almost like a safe. Being curious I crawled inside to have a look. Once inside I had an image of the door shutting and not being able to get out. This became my worst fear and I haven't gotten rid of that image ever since.

Nicely done...if you are claustrophobic, thinking outside of the box is much better. I love this poem.....great job!
