The Dragon & The Pauper pt. I

by aDORKable x3   Jan 24, 2006

As the Dragon sat
Alone upon the slope
He looked onto the world
And wished it all some hope

He has been around
Such a long time
He has seen everything
When in his prime

The pain he's felt
The lies he heard
The devestation at hand
His vision blurred

To recall such tragedies
It's too much to bear
800 years of this life
It's almost unfair

While the Earth spins
Around the sun
The Dragon lays down
"I think I am done

This world is too harsh
And I am too old."
So with that being said
He settled down in the cold

As the Dragon slept
In the very same spot
The years went by
The cold to hot

Then one day, as luck would have it
A man walked by the Dragon
Covered in rags, not riches at all
Riding in a covered wagon

The Dragon stirred at this approach
And rose to see the clatter
The old man, startled by the Dragon
Apologized for the matter

The Dragon accepted his plee
And asked where the man had gone
"Not many places, but I am tired.
May I sit upon your lawn?"

With a kind heart, the Dragon allowed
The man a comforting seat
For he looked so exhausted
And, he, the Dragon, wanted to treat

"It's been many years since I've had a vistior,
What brings you here?"
The Pauper replied oh so sadly,
"Too many times have I shed a tear"

"That's sad and depressing," the Dragon sighed.
"I know what that is like.
To be alone and lonely
While everyone's all alike"

The Pauper sat for a moment
Taking this all in
Then wondering allowed, he said
"You and I, we are both akin.

We seen the face of danger
Yet, we've know some joy
I wonder what this world is like
For every little girl and boy"
