We will be gone

by ali   Jan 25, 2006

We're ancient beyond measure, Lichen covered, and worn.
We are of the Highlands, We stand by the shore.

On gorse clothed downlands, Time layered in chalk,
The pathways lie long, Where the ancients once walked

Within lies no treasure, Without, only time.
We stand in the midst, No prose, or no rhyme.

We are old beyond time, No comfort is giv'n
We've o'erseen starlight, And moons that 'ave risen.

Once warriors of old, Defended our sides.
And men before Druids, Searched for their signs.

Gone are the words, Only shadows remain.
We vouchsafe to stay, In our ancient domain.

So while we may lean, And lie prone on the ground.
We are of the order, We are the first crown.

Hark! And so listen, In order to hear.
We stood when pyramids, Were in their first year.

We are ancient beyond measure, Strong beyond fear.
We were made to endure, We were meant to be here.

So remember us well, As we stand here alone.
We were here 'ere you came, We'll be here when you're gone.
