Daddy's Little Girl

by cristin handwerk   Jan 26, 2006

He had always said I was his angel from above
He wrapped me in his arms filled with oh so much love

He watched me twirl and spin all night long
My father said my moves had created a song

I was so scared to dance in front of everyone at school
I thought they would all laugh and call me a fool

So I danced pretending he was the only one watching me
His eyes glistened and filled with glee

Tears ran down his face
As I floated on stage with my shoes wrapped in lace

Daddy then greeted me with a single white rose
Then he gently touched my nose

He tucked me in bed
And kissed me on my head

I asked Daddy why he was crying
Then he said "Angel, I'm dying"

"Daddy what do you mean, stop crying and answer"
"I didn't want to tell you my sweet baby, for I am dying from cancer"

As he started playing with my hair
He said don't worry, I'm going up there

As I followed his finger I looked up in the sky
I finally understood and I started to cry

"Daddy, you'll always be in my dreams, I'll be dancing for you"
"I'll be the only one watching you,and your beautiful wings too"

He sang to me and waited until I was alseep
He smiled at me continuing to weep

"I will always be here to watch you twirl"
He kissed me goodnight and said "goodbye my little ballerina girl"
