Hiding Bruises

by Sherry Lynn   Jan 26, 2006

Mommy

How did you get that bruise
Where did it come from
Why won't you tell me
You always say don't worry

Mommy

I am old enough to know now
Please, do not hide anything from me
Did daddy hit you last night
Is that why you were crying

Mommy

Don't worry anymore
We will protect you
For now on Mommy
I promise
You will not have to hide another bruise

Though this is not a "poem" they are the words that a nine year old child spoke to his mother. Sad to say that child felt as though he is responsible for protecting his mother who is divorced from the man that "hurts" her as the child says.
What is even sadder for me is the fact that the nine year old child happens to be my son.

This is soo sad sherry! I know it must be tough on you... My dad isn't the greatest dad around but I know I'm lucky, considering all the hell and abuse other kids go through. my heart goes out to you...no kid should have to ask these questions. take care, best wishes!

Out of the mouths of children sometimes come the greatest sentiments. Beautiful job capturing it.
