She Has Me Hidden

by lonelynow   Jan 26, 2006

Glancing in my direction people see
What they think must be me
She's always smiling, having fun
Troubles? What troubles? She has none

I am the girl who hides inside
Yes that joyful girl has always lied
She's ashamed of her real self; she can't show
She's buried me; tracks covered by snow

They see her for having every toy or game
None of you bother to see her pain
She's always happy, sadness is forbidden
You can't see what she has hidden

Walking on snow without leaving a footprint
Walking through the debris without leaving a hint
I am there but you can't see me; just someone happy
And you never forgive us for being snappy

Trying to smile so you can't see
Presses herself into the background, into me
If she pretends I'm not there I'll go away
Yet she knows I'll take over someday

I try to help her through her life
Wiping away tears, soothing strife
She smiles when she hurts inside
She laughs when she's just secretly died

She's having to put up with constant rain
None of you bother to see our pain
She has to do what we're bidden
Still you can't see she has me hidden
