Lady of the Night III - An Epic Battle

by Brad Champagne   Jan 30, 2006

When last the story was told, the journey had just begun
To find the dragon's dark lair afar.
Decisions made in haste have led to the tempting of fate
As heroes join in epic struggle.

The townsfolk did assemble in the bright afternoon sun
For to see us depart as we are.
As slowly our fears and worries they began to abate,
Faith and doubt our minds all did juggle.

Across plain and moor and mountain we rode three days on end
To find such a man as knew our foe.
Though there was not for fun and games we did as that we could,
Singing ballads of father's long past.

As we cleared a wood I saw at last the cave 'round a bend
And spoke of what little we did know
Whilst the land we marked in great detail as right we should
If this enemy down we'd cast.

Of fifteen strong lads, four I sent to draw the dragon out
Where in wait we others sat to break
Forth in frezy upon this beast when daylight hit his skin,
And the battle of the age is fought.

Upon reaching the cave the men did give a mighty shout
That the earth upon we stood did quake.
Then in that dark two burning suns were brought to life, awake,
Peering forth upon the lads they caught.

With one long yawn our foe did quickly make his work of them,
As the fires of his soul were set free.
With three men down, the charge did sound, the trap was fin'lly sprung,
As on to glory we rode once more.

The mighty wyrm did know his fight and eas'ly broke our hem
And killed the eight men he could see.
I and the final three charged on in brav'ry to be sung
In song and tales in later years lore.

Leaving mounts and drawing swords we did quickly make our work
As the three distracted I approached
From behind, and thrust my blade into the soft belly meat
As to the ground the dragon did fall.

Reaching home, the town cheered learning the beast no longer lurked
For we four the dragon did poach.
On bended knee I took My Lady's hand so soft and sweet
To kiss as teardrops began to fall.

Once again I beg your leave as the rest must surely wait
For another time as I see fit.
Until such time I retire to my prison as of late,
To wait again those who come to sit.
