In your own world

If I proposed a wager, will our hearts break or mend.
Would you bet all your belongings to prove your strategic end?
Would you gamble on lost causes?
Or bet on rigged horses?
Just to prove that everything lays down to chance?

If a man rose to a challenge would he be honoured despite defeat?
Will the kisses be mixed with poison?
Or the applause retreat?
Could his head be held high without his name squandered?
While still be held an idol in the eyes of his sons and daughters.

If a woman lost her baby would she suffer exiled glances?
Could she count on devil laughter as she signs away her chances?
Noses turned at her tears, does unborn mean unloved?
No child in her arms, swallow it down, is the fault her own?
A cradle meant for love now used for fire wood.

When labour reaches its peak will the feeble be rested?
Would each mistake be noticed?
And the sins amended?
In the night will screams translate to hunger?
A void to remain empty.

The promise of an MP will it be heard?
Or took for granted?
Should one vote stand for everything but will nothing be charted?
When a country lays in ruins will he condemn his promise?
An excuse fed to the humble all just to bide some time.

If a young girl spoke her mind could it influence her audience?
Will her words be white with chalk dust?
Or speak beyond her appearance?
Retaining youth but do creases make you wise?
What is felt is true enough, if only in your own world.
